FPIs rush to India for a stake in expected 6% growth
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought $2.2 billion of Indian equities in the first nine days of May, taking total inflow since March to $4.5 billion. The strong inflows more than made up for the $4.1 billion outflow in the first two months of 2023, eking out a $404 million net inflow for the calendar year so far. Renewed foreign interest, together with strong domestic support, helped Indian equities outperform the MSCI EM index by 4% in April— one of the best among Asian peers. This brought down year-todate underperformance to 6%
