Benares Hotels Ltd's latest results show mixed performance, with a slight year-on-year decline in net sales and profit, but a strong sequential growth in sales and solid annual revenue growth. While the company maintains strong operational fundamentals and a robust financial position, recent challenges highlight the need for careful monitoring.
Benares Hotels Ltd reported its financial results for the quarter ending March 2026, revealing a mixed performance amid seasonal pressures typical of the hospitality sector. The company recorded net sales of ₹48.60 crores, reflecting a marginal decline of 1.06% compared to ₹49.12 crores in the same quarter last year. However, this figure represents a notable sequential growth of 16.74% from ₹41.63 crores in the previous quarter, indicating improved demand during the winter tourist season in Varanasi.
In terms of profitability, the net profit for the quarter was ₹15.35 crores, which marked a year-on-year decrease of 4.36% from ₹16.05 crores in Q4 FY25. The net profit margin also contracted to 31.58%, down from 32.68% in the prior year, primarily due to increased depreciation charges linked to recent capital expenditures on property upgrades. Operating margins showed slight improvement, with the operating profit margin (excluding other income) rising to 44.92% from 44.22% year-on-year, reflecting disciplined cost management. However, the overall gross operating margin, which includes other income, contracted slightly, indicating pressures on profitability from reduced contributions from other income sources. For the full fiscal year FY25, Benares Hotels demonstrated resilience with revenues reaching ₹135.00 crores, up 12.50% from ₹120.00 crores in FY24, and a net profit of ₹43.00 crores, representing a growth of 19.44%. Despite the seasonal challenges faced in Q4 FY26, the company’s operational efficiency remains evident, with a return on capital employed (ROCE) of 50.50%, significantly above its five-year average. The company's financial position is robust, characterized by zero long-term debt and a strong liquidity position, which allows it to navigate seasonal fluctuations without financial strain. However, the recent performance has led to an adjustment in its evaluation, reflecting the need for investors to consider the inherent volatility of the hospitality sector and the company's concentrated exposure to the Varanasi market. Overall, Benares Hotels Ltd continues to exhibit strong operational fundamentals, although recent results indicate some challenges that may require careful monitoring moving forward.
