Davangere Sugar Company Ltd's latest results show strong revenue growth with net sales up 47.29% year-on-year, but profitability has declined significantly, with net profit down 25.57% from the previous quarter, raising concerns about its financial health and operational efficiency.
Davangere Sugar Company Ltd's latest financial results for the quarter ended March 2026 reveal a complex picture of performance. The company reported net sales of ₹83.82 crores, reflecting a sequential growth of 1.37% and a substantial year-on-year increase of 47.29%. This marks the highest quarterly revenue in recent history, driven by improved sugar realization and higher crushing volumes. However, this revenue growth is overshadowed by significant declines in profitability metrics.
Net profit for the quarter was ₹1.95 crores, which represents a decline of 25.57% compared to the previous quarter. The operating profit, excluding other income, fell sharply to ₹8.45 crores, down 36.94% from the prior quarter, resulting in an operating margin of just 10.08%. This margin is the lowest recorded in seven quarters and indicates a substantial compression of 613 basis points quarter-on-quarter, highlighting operational challenges that have arisen despite the top-line growth. The company's annual performance for FY25 shows net sales of ₹214.00 crores, a slight decline of 0.9% from FY24, with net profit decreasing to ₹10.00 crores from ₹12.00 crores, marking a year-on-year contraction of 16.67%. Although the annual operating margin improved to 23.8% from 20.8% in FY24, this masks the recent sharp deterioration in quarterly margins. Additionally, Davangere Sugar's return on capital employed (ROCE) and return on equity (ROE) remain low, at 5.94% and 3.72%, respectively, indicating inefficiencies in capital deployment. The company also faces challenges with working capital management, as cash flow from operations turned negative in FY25, raising concerns about the quality of reported earnings. Overall, while Davangere Sugar Company Ltd has demonstrated strong revenue growth, the significant decline in profitability and operational efficiency raises critical concerns about its financial health. The company saw an adjustment in its evaluation, reflecting the complexities of its current operational landscape.
