Dr Agarwal's Health Care Ltd has reported its Q1 FY27 results, showcasing strong revenue growth and profitability metrics, although there are notable operational challenges to consider. The consolidated net profit for the quarter stood at ₹45.23 crores, reflecting a significant year-on-year increase of 50.52% and a sequential rise of 13.90%. This growth in profit is supported by net sales of ₹614.02 crores, which also demonstrated robust year-on-year growth of 25.97% and an 8.85% increase from the previous quarter.
Despite these positive trends in revenue and profit, the company experienced a slight contraction in its operating margin, which fell to 27.75%, down 87 basis points from the previous quarter. This decline in margins was attributed to rising employee costs, which increased significantly as the company expanded its workforce to support its growth strategy. The profit after tax margin improved marginally by 10 basis points to 8.96%, although it remains below its historical peak. The company has shown consistent revenue growth over the past five years, with a compound annual growth rate of 26.90%. However, it faces challenges related to capital efficiency, as indicated by its return on equity (ROE) of 5.55% and return on capital employed (ROCE) of 10.09%, both of which are below industry averages. This raises questions about the effectiveness of its capital deployment, especially in a capital-intensive sector like healthcare. Following the announcement of these results, the company saw an adjustment in its evaluation, reflecting the market's response to its financial performance amidst concerns regarding valuation and competitive pressures in the organized eye care segment. Investors are advised to monitor the company's ability to translate its operational growth into improved capital efficiency and profitability in the coming quarters.
