Eternal Ltd's latest Q1 FY27 results show strong revenue growth of 182% year-on-year, but a significant decline in net profit by 47% sequentially due to a high tax rate, raising concerns about sustainability. While the company has a solid balance sheet and improved operating margins, challenges in profitability remain, warranting close monitoring in future quarters.
Eternal Ltd's latest financial results for Q1 FY27 present a mixed picture. The company reported net sales of ₹20,211 crores, reflecting a significant year-on-year growth of 182.00% and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 16.88%. This robust revenue growth was driven by strong order volumes and an expanding market share across its food delivery and quick commerce segments.
However, the profitability metrics reveal challenges. The net profit for the quarter was ₹92 crores, which, while representing a substantial year-on-year increase of 268.00%, marked a notable sequential decline of 47.13%. This decline in net profit was primarily attributed to an exceptionally high effective tax rate of 66.18%, which raised concerns regarding the sustainability of earnings and potential accounting complexities. The profit after tax (PAT) margin contracted to 0.46%, down from 1.01% in the previous quarter, indicating pressure on profitability despite the strong revenue growth. Operating performance showed some resilience, with operating profit before depreciation, interest, and tax (PBDIT) reaching ₹594 crores, the highest in the company's history, and operating margins improving to 2.94%. This sequential improvement in margins suggests some operational leverage, although the overall profitability remains thin, reflecting the competitive pressures in the industry. The company's balance sheet remains strong, with a net cash position and manageable debt levels, providing a buffer for future investments. However, the reliance on non-operating income to bolster profitability raises questions about the core business's ability to generate sustainable returns. Overall, while Eternal Ltd demonstrates impressive top-line growth and operational resilience, the significant decline in net profit and the abnormal tax rate highlight critical challenges that need to be addressed. The company saw an adjustment in its evaluation, reflecting these complexities in its financial performance. Investors should closely monitor future quarters for signs of improved profitability and tax rate normalization.
