Indraprastha Gas Ltd's latest results show record revenue of ₹4,162.69 crores, but a significant decline in net profit by 25.18% year-on-year, indicating challenges in maintaining profitability due to rising costs and competitive pressures. Investors should watch for future performance to assess recovery in margins.
Indraprastha Gas Ltd reported its financial results for Q4 FY26, which reveal a notable divergence between revenue growth and profitability. The company achieved consolidated net sales of ₹4,162.69 crores, marking a sequential growth of 2.34% and a year-on-year increase of 5.45%. This represents the highest quarterly revenue recorded by the company. However, the consolidated net profit for the same period was ₹340.54 crores, reflecting a decline of 13.51% quarter-on-quarter and a more significant drop of 25.18% year-on-year.
The operating margin, excluding other income, fell to 10.12%, the lowest in recent quarters, down from 12.49% in the same quarter last year. This margin compression is attributed to rising operational costs and competitive pressures within the city gas distribution sector, which have constrained the company's ability to pass on cost increases to consumers. Despite achieving record revenues, the decline in profitability indicates underlying challenges. The operating profit before depreciation, interest, and tax (excluding other income) was reported at ₹421.06 crores, which is the lowest level seen in recent quarters. The persistent margin pressure suggests structural challenges rather than temporary issues, raising concerns about the company's ability to maintain its historically strong profitability profile. Additionally, the company’s average return on capital employed (ROCE) has declined to 19.05%, and return on equity (ROE) has also decreased to 14.23%, indicating diminishing capital efficiency. The financial position remains strong, with a virtually debt-free balance sheet, but the declining profitability is impacting cash generation. In light of these results, Indraprastha Gas has seen an adjustment in its evaluation, reflecting the challenges faced in maintaining profitability amidst rising costs and competitive dynamics. Investors should closely monitor future performance for signs of recovery in margins and profitability.
