IndusInd Bank's latest financial results for Q2 FY26 reflect significant operational challenges. The bank reported a net loss of ₹436.94 crores, a stark contrast to the profit of ₹1,331.26 crores recorded in the same quarter the previous year, indicating a substantial decline in profitability. This loss is attributed to a combination of deteriorating asset quality, as evidenced by the gross non-performing assets (NPAs) rising to 3.64% from 2.11% a year earlier, and net NPAs increasing to 1.12% from 0.64%.
Interest earned also saw a decline, dropping by 8.49% year-on-year to ₹11,608.63 crores, which reflects pressures on both volume and yield. The net interest margin compressed to 3.46%, down from 4.08% in the previous year, highlighting the challenges in maintaining profitability amidst rising funding costs and asset quality issues. Additionally, the bank's CASA ratio fell to 31%, down from 36% a year prior, indicating a weakening deposit franchise and a shift towards more expensive funding sources. The operational metrics reveal a concerning trend, with the bank's ability to generate low-cost deposits eroding and a significant increase in provisions required to address the mounting credit stress. The capital adequacy ratio decreased to 16.63%, which, while still above regulatory minimums, suggests limited capacity for growth or to absorb further shocks. Overall, these results underscore the fundamental challenges facing IndusInd Bank, prompting a revision in its evaluation. The bank's performance metrics indicate a need for comprehensive restructuring to stabilize asset quality, restore profitability, and rebuild its deposit base before any positive reassessment can occur.
