Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills Ltd's latest financial results for Q4 FY26 reveal significant challenges in profitability and operational efficiency. The company reported a net profit of ₹0.83 crores, which reflects a substantial decline of 70.57% year-on-year from ₹2.82 crores in Q4 FY25. Although there was a sequential improvement of 59.62% from the previous quarter's profit of ₹0.52 crores, the overall profitability remains under severe pressure, with a PAT margin collapsing to 0.35%, down from 1.14% a year ago.
Net sales for the quarter stood at ₹240.51 crores, showing a recovery of 31.00% from ₹183.60 crores in Q3 FY26. However, this figure represents a contraction of 2.38% compared to ₹246.37 crores in Q4 FY25, indicating ongoing demand challenges in the garments and apparels sector. The operating margin also faced compression, declining to 5.01% from 5.97% in the same quarter last year, primarily due to rising raw material costs and operational inefficiencies. The company's reliance on non-operating income is concerning, as it constituted 108.87% of profit before tax, suggesting that core operations are barely profitable. Additionally, the return on equity (ROE) remains low at 1.96%, and the return on capital employed (ROCE) has also declined to 5.96%, indicating inadequate returns relative to the capital employed. Financial leverage metrics reveal stress, with a debt-to-EBITDA ratio of 4.53 times and interest costs consuming a significant portion of operating profits. Employee costs have risen, reflecting wage inflation pressures, while gross profit margins have shown slight improvement but remain compressed compared to historical levels. In light of these results, Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills has experienced an adjustment in its evaluation, reflecting the ongoing operational challenges and profitability concerns. The broader context of the textile sector, characterized by changing consumer preferences and competitive pressures, further complicates the company's outlook.
