HDFC Bank Reports Flat Q3 FY24-25 Results Amid Record Net Interest Income and Declining Profitability

HDFC Bank has released its financial results for the third quarter of FY24-25, showcasing a flat performance in comparison to previous quarters. The bank's evaluation has undergone a revision, reflecting challenges in its financial health.
On a more favorable note, HDFC Bank achieved a record net interest income of Rs 38,125.89 crore, demonstrating consistent growth over the last five quarters. The interest earned also reached a notable high of Rs 85,040.17 crore, indicating a year-on-year growth of 20.48%. Additionally, the bank reported a gross non-performing asset (NPA) ratio of 0.00%, the lowest recorded in five quarters, which suggests a reduction in stressed loans.

Conversely, the bank encountered significant challenges, with profit before tax (PBT) declining to Rs -3,180.90 crore, reflecting a substantial year-on-year change. Operating profit also fell to Rs 776.39 crore, marking the lowest level in five quarters and resulting in a reduced operating profit margin of 0.91%. Furthermore, earnings per share (EPS) dropped to Rs 0.00, indicating a decline in profitability. The bank's capital adequacy ratio (CAR) also reached 0.00%, raising concerns regarding its capital base in relation to risk assets.
