BSE 500 Index Declines 0.07% Amid Mixed Sector Performance
The BSE 500 index experienced a slight decline of 0.07% amid a mixed trading session, with more sectors declining than advancing. The telecommunications sector stood out, rising 1.67% thanks to Bharti Airtel's 2.66% gain. The TECK and OILGAS sectors also saw modest increases. In contrast, the utilities sector faced significant losses, led by Reliance Infra's 4.98% drop, while the AUTO sector struggled with a 0.68% decline. The Nifty Infra sector reported the best advance-decline ratio, highlighting the varied performance across different market segments.
In a mixed trading session, the BSE 500 index recorded a slight decline of 0.07%, reflecting the broader market's struggle with more sectors declining than advancing. Out of 37 sectors, 16 managed to gain ground while 21 faced losses, resulting in an overall advance-decline ratio of 0.76.The S&P BSE Telecommunication sector emerged as a standout performer, rising by 1.67%, primarily driven by Bharti Airtel, which surged by 2.66%. This momentum in telecommunications was mirrored in the TECK sector, also buoyed by Bharti Airtel's strong performance, contributing to a 0.57% increase. The OILGAS sector followed suit with a modest gain of 0.30%, supported by B P C L, which rose by 1.33%.
Conversely, the S&P BSE Utilities sector faced significant headwinds, declining by 0.91%, with Reliance Infra leading the losses at -4.98%. The POWER sector also struggled, down 0.73%, largely due to Power Grid Corporation's drop of 2.55%. The AUTO sector rounded out the laggards with a decline of 0.68%, impacted by Hero MotoCorp's fall of 2.29%.
Notably, the Nifty Infra sector showcased the best advance-decline ratio at 10, while the AUTO sector lagged with a ratio of 0.25, highlighting the contrasting fortunes within the market.
