The FTSE 100 index experienced a modest increase of 0.27% today, continuing its upward trend with a notable rise of 1.9% over the past five days. Over the last month, the index has also shown a slight gain of 0.25%.
In the large-cap segment, Antofagasta Plc emerged as the top performer, delivering a return of 2.53%, while J Sainsbury Plc lagged behind with a decline of 2.13%. The mid-cap sector saw easyJet Plc leading with a return of 2.97%, contrasting sharply with Whitbread Plc, which faced a significant drop of 11.45%.

Among small-cap stocks, Mitchells & Butlers Plc stood out with an impressive return of 12.7%, while James Latham Plc recorded a decline of 4.67%.

Overall, the market showed a positive advance-decline ratio of 251 advancing stocks to 168 declining stocks, reflecting a healthy market sentiment. In the large-cap category, 32 stocks advanced against 23 that declined, while mid-caps had 36 advancing versus 29 declining. Small caps demonstrated the strongest performance with 137 advancing stocks compared to 92 declining.
