The Indian stock market saw a sharp decline today, with the Sensex falling by 1,276.42 points to 75,009.36. This is a significant drop of 1.91% from its previous close. The market opened lower by 183.00 points and continued to fall throughout the day. The Sensex is now 2.31% away from its 52-week high of 76,738.89.
Out of the 40 sectors, only 2 sectors managed to advance while 38 sectors declined. The top losing sector was NIFTYPSUBANK, which fell by 6.44%. On the other hand, the top gaining sector was BSEFMC, with a marginal increase of 0.11%.
Large caps traded flat today, with Dabur India being the top gainer at 4.77%. In the mid-cap category, Colgate-Palmolive saw a gain of 2.16%, while Moschip Tech. was the top gainer in the small-cap category with a 7.59% increase. However, Ambuja Cements, REC Ltd, and JP Associates were the top losers in the large, mid, and small-cap categories respectively.
Investors are eagerly waiting for the upcoming results of PTC India and Go Digit General on 7th and 11th June 2024 respectively. The SENSEX is currently trading at 75,155.66 with a loss of 1313.12 points, a decline of 1.72%.
The advance-decline ratio across BSE500 was 58 advances to 442 declines, indicating a bearish trend in the market. The BSE100, SMLCAP, and MIDCAP caps also saw a decline of 1.84%, 2.25%, and 2.49% respectively.
In terms of top gainers and losers in the BSE500 category, Dabur India, Sapphire Foods, and Avenue Super. were the top gainers, while REC Ltd, Ambuja Cements, and Bank Of Baroda were the top losers. With the market facing a downward trend, investors need to be cautious and make informed decisions while trading.
