Indian Stock Market Sees Positive Trend, Small Cap Stocks Lead the Way

The top gaining sector was S&P BSE Utilities, with a gain of 1.11%, while the top losing sector was BSE IT with a decline of 0.59%. The SENSEX, India's benchmark stock index, opened at 72,627.60 with a gain of 200.96 points (0.28%) and is currently trading at 72,487.99 (0.08%). It is just 1.3% away from its 52-week high of 73,427.59. The index is also trading above its 50-day moving average (DMA), with the 50 DMA trading above the 200 DMA. Small cap stocks were the top performers in the market today, with BSE Small Cap gaining 0.81%. On the other hand, large cap stocks were trading flat. Adani Enterprises was the top gainer in the large cap category, with a gain of 2.48%, while Wipro was the top loser with a decline of 1.42%. In the mid cap category, CRISIL was the top gainer with a gain of 5.26%, while Schaeffler India was the top loser with a decline of 2.69%. Chamanlal Setia was the top gainer in the small cap category, with a gain of 15.07%, while TajGVK Hotels was the top loser with a decline of 6.15%. The advance-decline ratio across BSE500 was 2.1x, with 336 advances and 160 declines. SMLCAP caps saw a rise of 0.81%, MIDCAP caps rose by 0.41%, and BSE100 caps rose by 0.18%. In terms of individual stocks, Quess Corp, MRPL, and KIOCL were the top gainers in the BSE500 category with gains of 13.57%, 13.15%, and 8.98% respectively. On the other hand, Schaeffler India, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, and Mishra Dhatu Nigam were the top losers with declines of 2.69%, 2.19%, and 1.98% respectively. Investors are also keeping an eye on the upcoming results of A B B, Elantas Beck, and Sanofi India, which are scheduled to be announced on 20th and 23rd February 2024 respectively. Overall, the market is showing positive momentum with small cap stocks leading the way.
