The Indian stock market experienced a slight downturn today, with the SENSEX trading at 84,868.46, reflecting a loss of 82.49 points or 0.10%. After an optimistic start, where it opened 91.42 points higher, the index fell by as much as 173.91 points during the session. Despite this decline, the SENSEX remains just 0.5% shy of its 52-week high of 85,290.06.
In terms of sector performance, only six out of 38 sectors managed to advance, with the BSE CD sector leading the way with a modest gain of 0.12%. Conversely, the NIFTYREALTY sector faced the most significant decline, dropping by 1.09%. The advance-decline ratio across the BSE500 was notably skewed, with 116 stocks advancing compared to 382 declining.

Among individual stocks, Federal Bank emerged as the top large-cap gainer, rising by 2.05%. In the mid-cap segment, GMR Airports gained 4.52%, while Fairchem Organic led the small-cap category with a remarkable increase of 14.52%. On the downside, Kaynes Tech and Fischer Medical were among the notable losers, with declines of 4.48% and 9.92%, respectively. Overall, the market sentiment leaned towards caution as large, mid, and small-cap indices all recorded losses.
