Sensex Soars 453 Points to 83,785; Whirlpool India Jumps Nearly 11% Amid Mixed Market
In a volatile trading session, the Sensex rebounded from an initial decline to close up 453.46 points at 83,785.24, nearing its 52-week high. The index's position above both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages signals a bullish trend. However, the broader market showed weakness, with a significant number of declines in the BSE500. Whirlpool India and Adani Power were notable gainers, while Wipro and Dhunseri Ventures faced steep losses. The NIFTY IT sector struggled, and investors are anticipating earnings reports from major firms like UltraTech Cement and ICICI Bank.
In a volatile trading session, the Sensex opened down by 135.88 points but made a strong recovery, gaining 453.46 points to settle at 83,785.24, reflecting a 0.38% increase. The index is now just 0.38% shy of its 52-week high of 84,099.53. Notably, the Sensex is trading above its 50-day moving average, which is also above the 200-day moving average, indicating a bullish trend.Among the broader market, the advance-decline ratio across the BSE500 showed 146 advances against 353 declines. The BSE100 index rose by 0.13%, while small-cap and mid-cap indices fell by 0.61% and 0.62%, respectively.
In terms of individual stock performance, Whirlpool India led the gains in the mid-cap segment with a remarkable increase of 10.99%. Adani Power was the top large-cap gainer, rising by 4.77%. Conversely, Wipro faced significant losses, dropping by 5.40%, while Dhunseri Ventures plummeted by 12.20% in the small-cap category. The NIFTY IT sector was the worst performer, declining by 1.83%, while the BSE CD sector gained 1.50%.
Investors are also looking ahead to upcoming results from major companies like UltraTech Cement and ICICI Bank, both scheduled for October 18, 2025.
