The metal sector emerged as a standout performer, gaining 0.92%, driven primarily by Hindalco Industries, which surged by 3.92%. The Nifty Metal index also followed suit with a gain of 0.80%.
The S&P BSE Telecommunication sector added 0.42%, buoyed by Sterlite Technologies, which rose by 1.79%. Conversely, the banking sector faced significant headwinds, with the Bankex index dropping 1.08%. Notably, Kotak Mahindra Bank fell by 2.19%, while UCO Bank in the Nifty PSU Bank index declined by 2.11%. The Nifty FMCG sector also struggled, with Hindustan Unilever leading the losses at 3.42%.

Among the sectors, Nifty Realty showcased the best advanced-decline ratio at 2.33, indicating a more favorable performance relative to others. Meanwhile, Nifty PSU Bank recorded a ratio of 0, highlighting the sector's struggles in the current market environment.
