The SENSEX also faced a decline, trading at 80,426.46, reflecting a loss of 733.22 points or 0.90%. The overall market sentiment was bearish, as evidenced by the advance-decline ratio across the BSE500, which showed only 44 advances against 456 declines.
All market segments reported losses, with the BSE100 caps falling by 1.11%, MIDCAP caps down by 1.96%, and SMLCAP caps decreasing by 2.05%. The Nifty Small Cap 100 index was particularly affected, dropping 2.26%.

Among the sectors, the S&P BSE Telecommunication sector was the hardest hit, declining by 2.69%. In terms of individual stock performance, Wockhardt led the losses with a drop of 9.40%, followed by Vodafone Idea at 7.60% and Laurus Labs at 7.05%. On a brighter note, Godrej Agrovet emerged as a top gainer, rising by 4.89%, while RACL Geartech surged by 13.04% in the small-cap category.
