Specialty Chemicals

Stepan Company produces specialty and intermediate chemicals. It operates through three segments: Surfactants, Polymers and Specialty Products. Surfactants segment offers products, which are principal ingredients in consumer and industrial cleaning products, such as detergents for washing clothes, dishes, carpets, floors and walls, as well as shampoos and body washes. Other applications of Surfactants include fabric softeners, lubricating ingredients, emulsifiers for spreading agricultural products and industrial applications, such as latex systems and composites. Polymers include polyurethane polyols, polyester resins and phthalic anhydride. Polyurethane polyols are used in the manufacture of rigid foam for thermal insulation in the construction industry and are also a base raw material for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers. Specialty Products include flavors, emulsifiers and solubilizers used in food, flavoring, nutritional supplement and pharmaceutical applications.
