Are Equitas Small Finance Bank Ltd latest results good or bad?

29-Jul-2026

Equitas Small Finance Bank Ltd's latest results show a net profit of ₹183.61 crores, a turnaround from last year's loss, but a 13.67% decline from the previous quarter raises concerns about sustainability. While asset quality has improved, the decrease in net interest margin and low return on equity suggest caution for investors.

Equitas Small Finance Bank Ltd's latest results present a mixed picture. On one hand, the bank reported a net profit of ₹183.61 crores for Q1 FY27, which is a significant turnaround from a loss in the same quarter last year. Additionally, net interest income (NII) surged by 31.03% year-on-year to ₹1,029.59 crores, indicating strong growth in its core lending operations.

However, there are several concerns. The net profit decreased by 13.67% quarter-on-quarter from ₹212.68 crores in Q4 FY26, which raises questions about the sustainability of its profitability. The net interest margin (NIM) also contracted to 7.07%, down from 7.29% in the previous quarter, reflecting increasing competitive pressures and rising funding costs. Furthermore, the bank's return on equity (ROE) remains low at 1.68%, which is below the expected range for well-performing banks.

On the positive side, the bank achieved its best gross non-performing asset (NPA) ratio in seven quarters at 2.42%, indicating improved asset quality. The net NPA ratio also decreased to 0.71%, showcasing effective credit risk management.

Overall, while Equitas Small Finance Bank has shown resilience and improvement in certain areas, the decline in net profit and margins, coupled with low ROE, suggests that investors should approach with caution. The stock's high valuation relative to its earnings further complicates the outlook, making it a challenging investment at this time.
